The task began 30 September 1977 and terminated on 28 February 1978. The statement of work for this task is as follows. "Generally review all background literature, largely summary papers and books, to generate an overall appreciation of the history of research, claims, criticisms, and results of investigations in paranormal psychology. Because the investigators bring a strength of experimental objectivity to this effort rather than a theoretical or historical paranormal psychology bias, this task is necessary and desirable." Progress to Date In compliance with this statement of work, Systemetrics personnel conducted a search of all public literature on general paranormal psychology, with particular emphasis on remote viewing experiments and phenomena. Representative works were selected, for detailed review and were obtained from local libraries or purchased from publishers. In addition, reprints of articles and reports provided by the Sponsor were read and incorporated into the body of pertinent literature. Finally, classified reports of pertinent research were reviewed at the Sponsor's facility. The unclassified reports and books reviewed thus far are listed in Attachment 1, not only to document work performed to date, but to serve as a permanent listing of a portion of the pertinent literature. These references are generaiiy grouped by topical coverage, and are listed under two or more topics when appropriate. SECRE-TI- 5n Approved For Release ~W~. Each remote viewing document or source will be critically reviewed, based upon available information. This work will be completed, documented, and reporte d by 15 July 1978, as specified in the contract. Plans for Tasks 3 and 4 The Systemetrics proposal for this effort included visits to appropriate U.S. investigators and critics (Task 3) and an evaluation report (Task 4). As of the present time, the previously proposed tasks and'statement of work appear valid. It may be possible, however, to compress somewhat the work proposed in Tasks 2, 3, and 4. If such turns out to be feasible, a letter request will be submitted by 30 May l9i8 indicating a revised statement of work and cost proposal for Tasks 3 and 4. As stipulated in the Systemetrics proposal of 25 April 1977 and modified slightly in the 19 May 1977 revision, it is believed that the work to be performed through Task 4 constitutes a meaningful activity, and that only at the completion of this work can a continuation decision be made. If, on the other hand, some of the Tasks 3 and 4 activity can be conducted under Task 2, every effort will be made to do so, with appropriate concurrence from the Contracting Officer.
