Approved For Release 200 CIA-RDP96-00788RO01 700210027-3 INTERNATIONAL TRAINING AND CONFERENCE CENTER WELCOME TO THE CENTER more affectionately known as the "cedar chest" , for obvious reasons. By priority, it was the first building to be constructed on the new grounds of the Monroe Institute of Applied Sciences. It is on a plateau in the foot- hills of Virginia's scenic Blue Ridge, which you can see in the distance, stretching from North to South. The site was selected by the Institute for several reasons: it meets the basic requirement of a tranquil pastoral environment conducive to physical and mental relaxation, a major factor in the successful process of an intense learning or cogitative experience; it is isolated yet acces'sible' , so that distractions are at a minimum and good security -can be maintained; and finally, it is a location relatively free of various pollutions. The air is fresh, the water in the stream below is uncontaminated by housing, farms or grazing livestrock in its mountain watershed, and the land itself is free of heavy chemical treatment. 'There are many unique features incorporated into the Center, including the "CHEC" unit in your room. An information sheet for the CHEC is attached. After reading it and Your demonstration, if you have any questions about its operation, do get in touch with me or with Alice at the Center office. Outside, there are 730 acres of woods, trails, roads and pastures. Jogging in the morning air is standard procedure, as is simply walking down the road. (If your shoes get muddy, it's fine to just leave them by the front door). Most of all, the way to be is informal and casual so relax and anjoy your visit with us.
