  MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
  SUBJECT: Unconfirmed Source Information? Pertinent to an Unknown
           of Coordinates; SG1A
  SGic (S)
       a. (S) The source provided the following physical description of
  an unknown (at least unnamed) object which he stated was the target:
       The object of interest has a horizontal aperture or openingp contains
  black metal grating and is constructed of hardened steel or metal. There
  are circular plates on the object, and parts are dark gray, like gun metal
  (Note: Source may mean blackened or blued). Object looks very much like
  a stovepipe but is very hard and smooth, approximately 6-7 feet tall on
  its side, and 16-20 feet in length. There is a set of opposed, parallel
  grooves running length-wise through the object. Metal is used in construc-
  tion and is very hard, tough, compressed alloy; but resiliant. Object has
  two cables or cable like appendages attached; one at the front and one at
  the rear. Ends of the object are covered with a soft material. The in-
  terior is highly polished and contains a small metalic protrusion at the
  top center. Object appears to be approximately one to one and a half inches
  in thickness. Object is described as having a sort of nose cone and fin
  design to it. Source stated the object as being brown and green in color
  overall.
       b. (S) The source provided the following information pertinent to general
  appearance and his own deductions:
       The object appears to be either covered or under a cover. A deliberate
  attempt has been made to shield the object from the sun. While the ends are
  covered, they are still open as well. The cover is to protect the tube por-
  tion of the object. The object appears to be in a space orbit, and is not
  propelled by anything (freefall orbit). It is traveling in an orbit, not
  meant for either land mass nor ocean destination (splashdown), it just keeps
  orbiting. The destination and orbit appear to be a specific planet (reported
  as unknown, but for sake of reference by source it was called earth by source).
  Characteristic of the planet is its color changes; orange, red and yellow on
  one side of the orbit, white, blue, dark, mountainous, craggy and rocky on the
  other side.

                 c. (S) The source provided the following additional comments concerning
            the object:
                 The object is shiny in part, cool but not cold, and there appears to be
            an on-off, on-off, gleaming which may be caused by object rotation or a light
            device. It is shaped somewhat like a submarine (in outline or form), but
            looks very much like a gun barrel, or an oversized sewer pipe. There appears
            to be a few panels on or connected to the object, but these are not easily
            seen. The gun barrel portion of the object is used for its primary function,
            which the source could not identify. He did state that it was apparently not
            a destructive or damage causing purpose or intent. It is traveling through
            space. The object will eventually or soon be filled with .energy, but of what
            form is unknown. The object is presently accomplishing (at time of photograph)
            accomplishing the third portion of a three part mission; with apparently the
            first orbit and first portion being completed, the second orbit and second
            portion being seen and done, and at time of targeting (at time of photograph)
            this is the third exploration.
            2. (S) Caution should be utilized when evaluating the above data, as it
            appears the source may have been reporting information on the photo producing
            device, rather than the object reported at approximately 7000 feet altitude.
            3- (S) Request the above information be evaluated and comments be provided to
            the undersigned in writing:no later than 25 August 1980, this will permit a
            full evaluation of the source of information for both accuracy and intelligEmce
            value.
