(SINFISK) Monitor Tasking: Refer to tasking packet. 2. (SINFISK) Source Tasking: The Source was instructed to decode the ideogram, produced in during Session 41, which was representative of "something off to the side". Also, in an attempt to obtain an overhead perspective of the target area, a movement exercise was conducted. Finally, a time line search was completed of the period 20-26 September. 3. (SINFISK) Summary: Source's summary and comments attached. 4. (S/NF/SK) Comments: The "shiny" land could be a result of the optical effects of heat waves. In the monitor's view, this Source indicates that no significant action against US-flagged vessels occurs during the targeted time period(s). (S-SS) Statistics: Project 8712 Viewer: Ole Session dateg 2 SEP 87 Filename: 8712.LO2 2. (S-SS) This session of project 8712 also dealt with two. timelines: one extending from 13 SEP 87 through 19 SEP 87, and the other from 20 SEP 87 through 26 SEP 87. a. The perceptions gained from the 12-29 SEP 87 timeline are as follows: 1) There was an attempt to view the "thing" which I had not been able t ,o discern in the previous session. There was a lot of confusion about it still, and it was given up on. (see drawing, page 1 of the session transcript). 2) The general area was viewed from approximately 10 miles up. The results were: a) Looking straight down on it, the burning patch could be percieved, with the smoke going in a westward direction. b) Looking northwar the land is very flat, and seems to be shi4;. The predominate colors are tan (sand color) and silver- (reflections which take a pattern of [AOL) waterways.) c) Looking westward, there is a distant patch of green, but the land is mostly plain sand color. d) Looking eastward a coastline can be perceived. s irregular, and the area between the fire and the coastline seems to be full of patterns s'timii1ar to [AOL] waterways (see drawing, page 3). The pe~-ceptions gained from the 20-26 SEP 97 timeline are as follows.- 1) From late in the 20th there was a strong feeling of 1 ankiety which seemed to disappear about midways .PTIONAL FORM NO. 10 Approved For Release 2000/08/08 : CIA-RDP96-00789ROO0200049sqWmQ(41 CFR)IOI-11.6 MID-114 Approved For Release 2000/08/08 : CIA-RDP96-00789ROO0200040006-0 through the 21st. 2) Early on the 22nd I perceived an unexplainable feeling, smell and taste of fish. 3) Early on the 23, my hand involuntarily stopped going down the timeline, and refused to go further. 4) After forcing myself to continue, there was a feeling that my hand was "going over/around" somethingj and missing it all, together. There was definitely an avoidance situation going on. This ??? which I was avoiding continued through early on the 24th, when it was over. 5) Beginning early in the morning of the 26th, there was a cool feeling, exactly that of cold, wet weather. This lasted throughout the day, to the end of the timeline. 6) In an attempt to find out what was being avoided in 4) above, I went back to the timeline. There were gasoline smells, sounds of people shouting, and lots of "clicking" sounds, which sounded very much like CAOL3 wooden sticks hitting together. 2. (S/SS) Viewer's critique: I feel mixed emotions about this one. The SitUAti-OD of an inland_fir-e--may have been driven by the previZG-s-siession's amaFe-N-e--n~t about the smoothness of the water on which the fire was located, but I feel fairly certain that that was not the case.
