EVALUATION DATA: Viewer Conf,'idence (H/M/L): Evaluator's Estimate: E. SESSION SUMMARY: The document discussed a very old struqture that was brown and made of stone. The structure is huge and has many sides to it. The -structure has a huge entrance. A portion of the structure is opened at the top and it looked as though men were falling down through the structure or it looked as though men were flying? The structure was used and is still used for people working there. I could see a person or a statue that was dressed in an odd outfit and had a very long cylinder pointed hat. I felt I went back in time when I saw the way this statue or person was dressed. HELENS quickly became a national event (above). Where ash ftom the May 18 up S heaval stayed airborne, people far to the east gazed at dusky skies and made the awesome con- nection. Within the fallout zone some towns were smothered by nearly three inches, and resi- dents donned face masks. Other communities that got a dusting considered it only a nuisance. During smaller subsequent eruptions, winds blew the ash west and south. But all breathed a glad sigh when it proved essentially nontoxic. Where ashfell, scientists pointed to long-term benefits. Soils in the, Northwest owe much of their fertility to repeated deposits from numer- ous eruptions in the Cascade Range. But the im- mediate future remained unsettled for those in the shadow of a giant no longer asleep (right). Mount St. Helens last came to life in 1831 and sputtered intermittentLy for 25 years. Its rebirth hasfocused attention on other historically active Cascade 'peaks such as Mountffood, which was ;7@t'd@ *by more than 50 small quakes last July.
