           Civil Air Patrol Calls Off
           Search for Student Pilot
                The air, water and ground search for a Stu-
           dent pilot missing over Maryland since Oct. 4
           has been suspended, the Civil Air Patrol said
           yesterday.
                Rosa Gonzales, 30, of Annapolis, was on a
           training flight from Annapolis to various spots
           on the Delmarva Peninsula when her single-
           engine Piper Cherokee was believed lost,
           some time between 2 and 6 p.m.
                During her trip, she had landed safely at the
           Bay Bridge and Summit, Del., airports, then
           spoke by radio to the Dover, Del., airport and
           was seen on radar about seven miles north of
           Millington, Md., -about 2:20 p.m.
                Initially, the patrol received reports that
           she landed in Easton and had lunch about 3
           p.m., but those reports couldn't be confirmed
           by witnesses, the patrol said. She was due
           back at Lee Airport outside Annapolis that
           night but never arrived.
                The search involved as many as 24 aircraft,
           Coast Guard boats and people from local, state
           and federal agencies. Civil Air Patrol members
           spent more than 600 hours in the air, covering
           7,000 square miles, from dawn to dusk,
           searching a two-state area as far north as
           Summit Del., south to Crisfield, Md., west to
           the suburbs of Washington and east to the At-
           lantic Ocean.

                 After. examining a body found this week in
            Chesapeake Bay near St. Mary's shores,'state
            authorities. were trying to determine if the dead
            woman was the pilot of a plane that disap-
            peared last month while en route to Anne Arim-
            del County.

                 "There is a chance, but we're not a hundred
            percent sure until we get the dental records,"
            Dr. Margarita Korell said Thursday from the
            Maryland medical examiner's office.
                 The body, spotted Monday morning by a
            boater about two miles east of Spring Ridge,
            was that of a woman who had been dead for
            "several weeks," Korell said. Dressed in shirt
            and pants, the body was "basically whole," but
            decomposition prevented authorities from pin-
            pointing the time of death.

            to -Plane Crash
                 On Oct. 4, Rosa Maria Tames Gonzales, a 30-
            year-old student airplane pilot from Annapolis,
            failed to return to Lee Airport in Edgewater
            with a 1973 Piper Cherokee during a round trip
            to Delaware. Investigators had concentrated
            'their search for the plane and pilot in the
            Easton area, where the plane waS scheduled to
            make a brief stop, and off Cove Point after a
            fisherman reported hearing a plane engine that
            day and a loud splash.
