September 196o marked the 10th anniversary of the Irkutsk laboratory of time
and frequencies of the all-union institute Of Ysico-technical and radio-tech
   P4 nio-al
measurements. The laboratory's rather small collective determines local time by
measuremen:6-6f moving heavenly bodiess, transmit,@ exact time signalsI and controls
transmission of such signals by domestic and foreign radio stations. The volume
of soientific research performed by the laboratory has expcew:Ided considerably in
a comparatively short tdme. The laboratory has been augmented by new@ more modern
equipTLent Which permits scientific work with extreme accuracy, This yearg for
ex4mpleq new apparatus is being used to transmit signals with a deviation from
absoliite accuz-acy of only .0002 (two ten-thousandths) of a second. To cbtain these
resu
   lts; the equipment had to be improved locally, which was done by a group under
Porkhokutskiy., senior scientific worker of the laboratory. This@laboratory was tjjs
first in the USSR to begin use of the Danion prismatic astrolabe., a device for
astronomic measuring of ephemerides. Instruments have been converted for
semi-automatic and individual observatlons
   .9 and much other work has.been done.
