Dear Scotty:
First, I want to let you know that Mike Hecker has begun to work on the audio
analysis project.
Since the desire is eventually to apply this in your situation, we propose
to begin our work using tapes from #372. Since the success or failure may
depend in part upon tape quality, we propose further to have you provide us
with a selection of #372 tapes on your local targets that you have evaluated.
To begin, the selection of, say, six or so should contain the very best and
the very worst, with the middle range left out. Also, by best we mean that
the description should accurately fit the site, even though by your own scale
it might have a somewhat lower rating because the data, though good, may not
have been relevant with regard to your utility requirements.
Also, by processing some of your tapes, Hecker will let all of us know if it's
necessary for you to use a higher-quality system to optimize the potential for
useful results. (Maybe your system is more than adequate already--that would
be important to know.)
60 We should probably discuss this matter in person. Are you still planning to
visit us soon? If not, we should consider having Hecker visit you there before
we got too far down the road.
