    (U) PURPOSE: To update Commander, INSCOM concerning CENTER LANE
    activities from 6 Jun through 16 Aug 83.
    FACTS:
    1. (U) LTC Jachim transfetred from SSPD to Hawaii on 8 Jul 83.
    2. (C) Cpt Atwater served as acting chief of SSPD from 9 Jul
    83 TO 14 Aug 83.
    3. (U) LTC Buzby arrived on 15 Aug 83 from Los Angeles, CA.
    4. (S/CL-3/NOFORN) One CL personnel attending MIAS Gateway
    Program (PHASE II) from 15 through 19 Aug 83.
    5. (S/CL-3/NOFORN) Two new incoming personnel:
    a. Captain, due 1 Sep 83, transferring from USAOG
    b. Captain, due 11 Jan 83, transferring from Ft Huachuca
    G. (S/CL-3/NOFORN) one civilian part-time participant has been
    recruited and has started an in-house training program.
    7. (S/CL-1/NOFORN) Two new taskings were received from NSA,
    work is currently under way to satisfy these requests.

    SUBJECT: CENTER LANE Update (U)
    8. (S/CL-3/NOFORN) on 19 Jul 83, SSPD contracted with MIAS for
    Advanced Individual Training of unit personnel This is the
    third phase of MIAS training.
         a. Phase I is the in-house application, of the Discovery
    Series produced by MIAS.
         b. Phase II involves sending unit personnel for resident
    training in the Gateway Program.
         C. Phase III involves training of selected unit personnel
    at MIAS. This training is specifically tailored to the needs of
    the individual and is designed to enhance the ability to acquire
    and collect intelligence.
