Subject: Stage 1 training completions (Preliminary report)
All four client-selected trainees who had embarked on S-1
at the beginning of the year, finished S-1 on or about July 20, 1984.
The greater part of the training took place at the New York office.
Each of the trainees achieved competence in learning the technicalities
of S-1. The training was enthisiastically received. Each wished to
go on to S-2, which,- at this writing, has already commenced.
In terms of the quantity of simulated sites that were necessary
for each trainee to achieve S-1,

estimated timing for S-1 that was indicated in our proposals, was
somewhat less. This time requirement was based upon the work of five
previous trainees in the original prototype project, which was
terminated in November 1983. The amount of simulated sites necessary
for these five to complete S-1 is as follows:

In addition to these five prototype trainees above, our estimation
of time and sites necessary to achieve S-1 also rested upon the overall

The averages for the three groups are as follows:
Five prototype trainees: 54 sites necessary
First cliented selected group 53 sites necessary
Second client-selected group: 85 sites necessary
All three training programms were dilivered exactly the same, with
the same orientation and theoritical lectures, and the same coaching and
instruction during practical work, modified only by having to take into
account the individualities of each traineef as has been our policy.
In fact, the environment imt in which the last group worked was much
different from the environment at SRI in Menlo Park, due to the fact
that there were no upsets at all, and the environment was benign and
peaceful.
