MEADE, MARYLAND 20755 IAFM-OPS-HU-SA 1 August 1979 MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD SUBJECT: Monthly Exchange of Ideas, Technical Advances and Future Plans: AMSAA and INSCOM GRILL FLAME Personnel (U) 1. (U) On 30 July 1979, the monthly meeting between AMSAA and INSCOM GRILL FLAME personnel took place at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland. The following personnel attended the meeting: MAJ(P) Watt, Project Manager, INSCOM 1LT Atwater, Assistant Project Manager, INSCOM Lynne Taylor, Project Manager, AMSAA Three other members of AMSAA GRILL FLAME Staff 2. (S) We spent the first two hours reviewing the status of our program, including how training was progressing at SRI. We explained our concept of how to train using coordinates in lieu of "beacons" and that our process would involve three training phases. 3. (S) Al-ISAA took the rest of the morning updating us on the status of their program. All were encouraged that the AMSAA program seems to be back on track and they are now doing remote viewing sessions on a weekly basis. 4. (S) AMSAA personnel briefed us concerning the meeting they had with the GRILL FLAME Evaluation Team (DOD) on Friday, 27 July 1979. The Evaluation Team had just returned from visiting SRI and did have some faults to find with the procedures used by SRI--in particular, the team did not like the restricted target pool or the judging procedures currently utilized by SRI. The team is scheduled to visit INSCOM and AMSAA sometime in Sep 79. 5. (U) 1LT Atwater briefed on his recent trip to Philadelphia and covered the highlights of the seminar. We encouraged AMSAA CLASSIFIED BY: Director, DIA DECLASSIFY ON: 1 Aug 99 EXTENDED BY: Director, DIA REASON: 2-301-C (3) (6) FLAME Approved For Release 2001/04/ 96-007Qft]P6"4VU3U_-Z orpor Approved For Release 2()oliv.+oT.4wWl4UWrvo-uu788ROO2000240030-2 IAFM-OPS-HU-SA 1 August 1979 SUBJECT: monthly Exchange of Ideas, Technical Advances and Future Plans: AMSAA and INSCOM GRILL FLAME Personnel (U) personnel to take advantage of similar seminars as they help to provide a broader base upon which to build our respective programs. 6. (U) I mentioned that MAJ Stoner (OACSI) had suggested that INSCOM contact the CDEC folks at Fort Ord to coordinate possible involvement of INSCOM personnel in ongoing program being monitored by AMSAA. I asked if AMSAA would object and was told "no" but that if John Kramar had objections they would have him contact me. 7. (U) AMSAA felt that in the near future they would be: a. Using video-tape to cover their sessions. b. Have DACOM capability VIA local SSO and when operational we could share near real-time sessions. 8. (U) AMSAA asked us to provide them with some target packages, complete with feedback. I told them we would but could not promise a delivery date at this time. 9. (S) I requested AMSAA do some work with providing remote viewers limited feedback on same target to see if resolution improves. They did not seem too receptive to the idea although they did not reject it. 10. (U) No date was set for the next meeting. I suggested that the next meeting be held at Fort Meade. (kAA4_ vo.
